Buyer question
Is an Albino tegu good for beginners?
Usually not: our Animal Library rates the Albino tegu 2 out of 5 for beginners (big, strong, long-lived).

The detail
The albino tegu is an Argentine black and white tegu with a recessive gene that removes black pigment, leaving a pale animal with light eyes. It needs two copies to show, so a het carries the gene but looks normal.
- Best fit
- Experienced keepers with room and time
- Handling
- 4 out of 5 (Tames with daily work)
- Setup complexity
- 4 out of 5 (Big enclosure, brumation)
- Feeding ease
- 4 out of 5 (Eager omnivore)
What to weigh
Recessive genetics mean het claims cannot be seen and need proof. Care and adult size are the same as any Argentine tegu.
