The albino tegu is an Argentine black and white tegu with a recessive gene that removes black pigment, leaving a pale animal with light eyes. It needs two copies to show, so a het carries the gene but looks normal.

Florida added tegus to its prohibited list in 2021, Georgia bars new pet Argentine tegus (licences only for science, education or exhibition, from December 2022), and Hawaii bars most non-native reptiles. Check your state and city rules first.

How do I verify a het albino claim?

A het looks normal, so ask for parent photos, breeding records or a proven pairing. Without that, a het claim is only a bet on the parents.

What health records should I ask for?

A hatch record, a weight log and a PIT tag number for an older animal. Look for clear eyes and no retained shed.
