The detail
The Asian water monitor is one of the largest lizards in the world, a semi-aquatic species from South and Southeast Asia that can pass six feet. It is intelligent and can become tractable, but an adult needs a room with a pool.
- Best fit
- Very experienced keepers only
- Handling
- 3 out of 5 (Can tame, very strong)
- Setup complexity
- 5 out of 5 (A room with a pool)
- Feeding ease
- 4 out of 5 (Eats almost anything)
What to weigh
An adult needs a room of its own with a pool large enough to swim in, and the strength of a big dog. Few keepers can house one for its whole life.
