The detail
The Andean milk snake is one of the largest milk snakes, a highland form from the Andes of Colombia with a heavy build and red, black and pale bands. It comes from cooler mountain country, so it needs cooler temperatures than lowland milk snakes.
- Best fit
- Experienced colubrid keepers
- Handling
- 3 out of 5 (Flighty young, settles)
- Setup complexity
- 3 out of 5 (Needs cooler temps)
- Feeding ease
- 4 out of 5 (Good feeder once started)
What to weigh
It overheats more easily than lowland milk snakes, so a hot room is a real risk. It is also big and strong and must live alone.
