The detail
Bred in northern England to catch rats in mills and mines, the Yorkie is now a toy companion that still has a terrier's nerve. Bold, affectionate and portable, it sheds very little but needs grooming and careful handling.
- Temperament
- Bold, affectionate, feisty
- Best fit
- Adults, apartments
- Trainability
- 3 out of 5 (Smart, slow potty train)
- Energy
- 3 out of 5 (Short walks, play)

What to weigh
Yorkies bark, can be hard to house-train and are fragile around small children. Dental disease is very common, and the coat needs daily brushing unless clipped short.
