The detail

Bred in northern England to catch rats in mills and mines, the Yorkie is now a toy companion that still has a terrier's nerve. Bold, affectionate and portable, it sheds very little but needs grooming and careful handling.

Best fit
Adults, apartments
Temperament
Bold, affectionate, feisty

What to weigh

Yorkies bark, can be hard to house-train and are fragile around small children. Dental disease is very common, and the coat needs daily brushing unless clipped short.
