Buyer question
Is a Pinto good for beginners?
Usually not: our Animal Library rates the Pinto 2 out of 5 for beginners (better with experience).

The detail
A pinto hedgehog has patches of white quills over white skin mixed with areas of normal color, a spotting pattern rather than a base color. It needs the same warm, quiet, solitary setup as any African pygmy hedgehog.
- Best fit
- Night owls, patient adults
- Handling
- 2 out of 5 (Balls up, needs patience)
- Care load
- 3 out of 5 (Nightly wheel, steady heat)
What to weigh
The white patches can be pink-skinned and sunburn or dry out more easily. Otherwise it is an ordinary hedgehog, nocturnal and slow to trust.
