Pinto
Hedgehog · 0 live listings
A pinto hedgehog has patches of white quills over white skin mixed with areas of normal color, a spotting pattern rather than a base color. It needs the same warm, quiet, solitary setup as any African pygmy hedgehog.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
The white patches can be pink-skinned and sunburn or dry out more easily. Otherwise it is an ordinary hedgehog, nocturnal and slow to trust.
Common questions
Does the pattern need special care?
Not much. Watch pink-skinned patches for dryness, keep the setup out of direct sun, and use soft, dust-free bedding.
What health checks should I ask for?
Ask whether wobbly hedgehog syndrome, a progressive and fatal nerve disease, has appeared in the parents' lines, and for a litter record naming both parents. A vet exam and a check for mites are worth asking for as well.
Are hedgehogs legal where I live?
Not everywhere. California, Hawaii, Georgia, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia prohibit or tightly restrict them, New York City bans them, and Florida requires a permit to sell. Rules vary, so confirm state and city law first.
Ask the seller for these. Documents on Everybarn are on file for your own checks; we don't check them with the issuer.
