The detail
The diamond python is the southernmost carpet python, from coastal New South Wales and far eastern Victoria, black with cream or yellow rosettes. It comes from a cool climate and is known as the hardest carpet python to keep well in captivity.
- Best fit
- Experienced python keepers
- Handling
- 3 out of 5 (Often calm as adults)
- Setup complexity
- 5 out of 5 (Cool temps, easy to overheat)
- Feeding ease
- 4 out of 5 (Good feeder when kept cool)
What to weigh
Diamonds do poorly in heat that other carpets handle, and many problems trace back to being kept too warm year-round. They suit keepers who can run a cool room and a winter cool-down.
