Buyer question
Is a crested gecko good for beginners?
Yes: our Animal Library rates the Crested Gecko 5 out of 5 for beginners (top first gecko).

The detail
Patternless crested geckos show a single, even base color with little or no dorsal or lateral pattern, from olive and buckskin to red and yellow. It is a line-bred look rather than a simple gene, and the care is the same easy routine as any crested.
- Best fit
- First gecko, display keepers
- Handling
- 3 out of 5 (Jumpy, best hand-walked)
- Setup complexity
- 2 out of 5 (Room temp, misting, height)
- Feeding ease
- 5 out of 5 (Complete powdered diet)
What to weigh
Patternless is polygenic, so two patternless parents do not guarantee patternless babies. Cresteds also drop their tails when stressed, and a crested tail never grows back.
