The detail
An ancient hunting dog from central Africa, the Basenji tracked game by sight and scent and is famous for yodeling instead of barking. Clean, cat-like and independent, it is clever and curious and needs secure fencing and a patient, creative trainer.

What to weigh
Basenjis chew, climb fences and bolt after prey, and they are rarely safe off leash. They do not bark much but yodel, scream and howl when upset.
