The detail

Woolly llamas grow heavy fiber over the body, neck, head and legs, often with tufted ears, the type bred for the most fleece. They make showy fiber and pet animals but need regular shearing to cope with summer heat.

Hardiness
3 out of 5 (Heavy coat, heat risk)
Origin
Andes of South America
Best fit
Fiber and show homes
Temperament
Calm, independent, alert

What to weigh

A heavy coat means yearly shearing and a real heat-stress risk in hot, humid summers. Llamas must never live alone, and bottle-raised intact males can develop berserk male syndrome.
