A Chinese farm and guard dog known for its wrinkles, bristly horse coat and blue-black tongue, the Shar-Pei is calm, loyal and independent. It is reserved with strangers and protective of family, and its wrinkles and ears need regular care.

What to weigh
Shar-Pei are prone to skin fold infections, ear infections and entropion, and some suffer recurring fevers and kidney disease. They can be aloof or aggressive with other dogs.
