The detail

The green iguana is a large, tree-dwelling plant eater from Central and South America that can reach six feet with its tail. Hatchlings are small and cheap, but adults need a room-sized enclosure, daily greens and careful taming.

What to weigh

A hatchling becomes a large, long-lived lizard that can whip, scratch and bite, especially adult males in breeding season. Few homes are set up for one for 20 years.
