The detail
An Irish farm terrier bred to guard, herd and hunt vermin, the Wheaten has a silky, wheat-colored coat and an exuberant, people-loving nature. It greets everyone with enthusiasm, and it needs daily exercise, training and a lot of grooming.
What to weigh
Wheatens jump up to greet people and chase small animals. The silky coat mats quickly without daily brushing, and the breed carries inherited kidney and gut disease risks.
