The detail
The black-throat monitor is a large, heavy-bodied East African monitor that can reach five feet or more. Captive-bred black-throats are often tame with regular handling, but an adult is a powerful lizard that needs a room-sized enclosure.

What to weigh
An adult needs a custom, room-sized enclosure and a keeper able to handle a strong lizard. Food and housing costs grow with it.
