The detail

Delawares were developed in Delaware in 1940 as a fast-growing meat bird, white with black barring on the neck and tail. They are calm, dual-purpose chickens and good layers, and are now kept as a heritage breed.

What to weigh

Delawares are heritage birds and less common, so good stock can take time to find.
