White Crested
Guinea Pig · Arba · 0 live listings
The White Crested, or American Crested, is a smooth, short-haired guinea pig with a single white rosette on the forehead set against a coat of another color. It has the easy care of an American with one striking mark.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
A clean white crest with no other white on the body is hard to breed, so most pets fall short of show standard. Care is the same as any short-haired guinea pig.
Common questions
What makes a good crest?
For show, the crest is pure white, round and sharply defined, with no white elsewhere on the body. Pets with stray white are fine companions.
What health papers should I ask for?
Ask for a recent exam by a vet who sees guinea pigs, a clear fecal, and vet-confirmed sex, since young cavies are easy to mis-sex and sows can conceive within weeks of birth. A litter record naming both parents and the birth date is worth asking for too.
How is it different from an English Crested?
An English Crested has a crest the same color as its coat. The White Crested's crest contrasts in white.
