Teddy
Guinea Pig · Arba · 0 live listings
The Teddy is a short-haired guinea pig with a dense, springy coat caused by a rex-type gene, so the fur stands up and feels plush. The coat needs only light brushing, which makes it a good first cavy for an owner who wants something different.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
The dense coat can hold dust and debris, and some Teddies are prone to dry skin and waxy ears. Otherwise care matches any short-haired guinea pig.
Common questions
Does the Teddy coat need special care?
A soft brush weekly lifts dust and loose hair. Check the ears every few weeks, since wax can build up, and avoid frequent baths, which dry the skin.
What health papers should I ask for?
Ask for a recent exam by a vet who sees guinea pigs, a clear fecal, and vet-confirmed sex, since young cavies are easy to mis-sex and sows can conceive within weeks of birth. A litter record naming both parents and the birth date is worth asking for too.
Is a Teddy the same as a Texel?
They share a curly-coat gene, but the Teddy is short-haired and the Texel is long-haired with ringlets. The Teddy is far easier to keep.
