Tanimbar blue-tongue skinks come from the Tanimbar Islands of Indonesia and are a smaller blue-tongue, often silvery gray with dark bands and orange on the sides. They are less common than northerns and many have been imported.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
Tanimbars need humidity as well as UVB and heat, and captive-bred animals can be hard to find. Imports may carry parasites and need time to settle.
Common questions
Captive-bred or imported?
Indonesian blue-tongues are often imported and wild-caught. Captive-bred and parasite-screened matters: ask for a hatch record, a clear fecal and ideally an adenovirus test.
Are Tanimbars a good size for a smaller home?
They are on the smaller side for blue-tongues, but still need a large, humid enclosure with UVB. Plan for at least 4×2×2 ft.
How do I confirm it is a Tanimbar?
Ask for parent photos and origin records. Colors vary, and crosses between types exist in the trade.
What health tests should a Tanimbar blue-tongue skink have?
Ask for Fecal exam clear, Adenovirus PCR negative, Exotics vet exam on file, Genetics report for het claims, Hatch or birth record on file and Photo ID on file.
