Swedish ducks come from Sweden and Pomerania and are known for blue plumage with a white bib. They are hardy, calm foragers kept for meat and eggs, and do especially well in cold climates.

Why don't all Swedish ducklings come out blue?
Blue is a dilution gene. Blue pairs produce about half blue, a quarter black and a quarter splash.
What health checks should ducklings or adults have?
Ask whether the flock is NPIP-certified for pullorum-typhoid and avian influenza, which many states require for sales and shows. Look for clear eyes and nostrils, a clean vent and a steady walk, and quarantine new birds for 30 days before they meet your flock.
Are Swedish ducks good foragers?
Yes. They are active and hardy on pasture.
