The tradeoffs, honestly
Standard Bronzes grow slower than Broad Breasted birds. Many "bronze" turkeys sold are Broad Breasted, so ask.
Common questions
Standard or Broad Breasted Bronze?
Standard Bronzes mate naturally and grow slower. Broad Breasted Bronzes are commercial and cannot mate naturally.
What health checks should poults or adults have?
Ask for NPIP status, which for turkeys covers pullorum-typhoid, mycoplasma (MG, MS and MM) and avian influenza. Keep turkeys apart from chickens where you can, since chickens can carry blackhead, and quarantine new birds for 30 days.
Are Standard Bronzes rare?
Yes. They are listed by The Livestock Conservancy.
