The tradeoffs, honestly
Keeping the gait smooth takes a rider and farrier who know gaited horses. White areas sunburn, and show horses may have been exposed to soring.
Common questions
What should the pre-purchase exam cover?
Ask the vet to check the front pasterns for scars or pain that could suggest soring, and to assess feet and shoeing. Include a skin check on white areas.
Is a Spotted Saddle Horse good for beginners?
Often. Most are calm and very smooth. Take a few lessons on a gaited horse to learn how to ride the gait.
Is it a Tennessee Walker with spots?
Partly. Many carry Walker blood, but the breed also draws on Fox Trotters and Spanish-descended ponies, and it has its own registries.
Ask the seller for these. Documents on Everybarn are on file for your own checks; we don't check them with the issuer.
