At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
The Sokoke is very rare, with a tiny gene pool and few breeders worldwide. It needs lots of activity and company, ideally another cat.
Common questions
What health checks should the parents have?
Few inherited diseases are known, but the gene pool is small. Ask how the breeder manages inbreeding, and for a full vet exam of the kitten and heart screening on the parents.
Is a Sokoke a good first cat?
For an active household, yes. They are friendly but energetic and vocal. They do best with another cat and plenty of climbing space.
Is the Sokoke a wild cat?
No. It is a domestic cat that developed naturally in Kenya. TICA recognizes it as a breed.
