Developed in Australia by crossing Yorkshire Terriers with Australian Terriers, the Silky is a small, keen terrier with a long, glossy coat. It is friendly and playful but more assertive and energetic than its size suggests.

Is a Silky Terrier a good first dog?
It can be, for an active owner. Silkies are friendly and adaptable but a terrier at heart, so expect barking, chasing and some stubbornness.
What health problems do Silkies have, and what should be tested?
Luxating kneecaps, Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, collapsing trachea, allergies and diabetes occur. Ask for a patella check, a Legg-Perthes clearance and a recent eye exam on both parents.
How is a Silky different from a Yorkie?
The Silky is slightly larger and sturdier, with a wedge-shaped head, and tends to be more terrier-like in temperament.
