Scolymia are large, single-polyp stony corals, often called scolys, with colorful, fleshy discs. They do best in low light and gentle flow on the sand bed, and need regular target feeding to thrive in a reef.

Scolys need regular feeding and stable water. Some sold as Scolymia are now classed as Homophyllia, but care is similar.

How often should I feed a scoly?

Once or twice a week with small meaty foods is common.

Do they need CITES paperwork?

Yes. Stony corals, including scolys, are CITES Appendix II, so imports need permits.

What should I check before buying, and should I quarantine?

Look for full, inflated tissue with no recession or bare skeleton. Dip and quarantine new corals.
