The Saharan uromastyx, also sold as Geyr's or red Niger, is a compact desert lizard that comes in red and yellow colour forms. It is increasingly captive-bred, but imports still turn up, so a hatch record matters.

Colour depends on the animal and on heat and age, so a hatchling may not show its adult colour. Needs very high basking heat and strong UVB.

Red or yellow: is it a different species?
No. Red and yellow are colour forms of the same species. Ask for parent photos if colour matters to you.
How do I check its health?
Ask whether it is captive-bred with a hatch record or imported, and for a clear fecal. Look for a full tail base and firm jaws and limbs; softness can signal metabolic bone disease from poor UVB.
Is it legal where I live?
Uromastyx are CITES Appendix II, so an imported animal needs CITES paperwork, and Hawaii bars most non-native reptiles. Check your state and city rules first.
