The Roborovski, or Robo, is the smallest and fastest pet hamster, from the deserts of Mongolia and northern China. It is fascinating to watch but hard to hold, so an owner should expect a pet to observe in a large, deep setup rather than cuddle.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
Robos rarely tolerate handling and can vanish through tiny gaps. Same-sex groups sometimes work but can turn violent, so plan a second enclosure.
Common questions
Can Robos live together?
Sometimes, as same-sex littermates in a very large enclosure, but fights can start without warning. Many keepers house them singly. Have a spare setup ready.
What health checks should I ask for?
Ask for the birth date, vet-confirmed sex and a litter record. Check that the rear end is clean and dry: wet tail, a fast bowel infection, strikes young hamsters stressed by weaning or moving, and needs a vet the same day. A vet exam on file is a plus.
Can I keep a hamster where I live?
In most of the United States, yes, but Hawaii prohibits hamsters. Rules vary and can change, so confirm your state and local law before you buy.
Ask the seller for these. Documents on Everybarn are on file for your own checks; we don't check them with the issuer.
