Peruvian
Guinea Pig · Arba · 0 live listings
The Peruvian is a long-haired guinea pig whose coat grows forward over the face from a part at the rump, and it can reach well past the body in show animals. It is striking but demanding: without regular trims the coat mats, soils and hides health problems.

The tradeoffs, honestly
The coat is the whole job: daily brushing and regular trims for pets, or wrapping for show. Matted long hair hides weight loss, sores and flystrike, so checks must be hands-on.
Common questions
Can I keep the coat short?
Yes. Most pet Peruvians are trimmed short every few weeks, which cuts grooming time and keeps the rear clean. Only show animals are kept in full coat.
What health papers should I ask for?
Ask for a recent exam by a vet who sees guinea pigs, a clear fecal, and vet-confirmed sex, since young cavies are easy to mis-sex and sows can conceive within weeks of birth. A litter record naming both parents and the birth date is worth asking for too.
Is a Peruvian a good first guinea pig?
Usually not. The temperament is fine, but the coat needs more work than most first-time owners expect. A short-haired breed is easier while you learn.
