Is it legal where I live?

Florida prohibits Nile monitors outright, and Hawaii bars most non-native reptiles. They are CITES Appendix II, so an import needs CITES paperwork. Check your state and city rules first.

Can a Nile monitor be tamed?

Some captive-bred animals become tolerable with patient work, but many stay defensive for life. Plan for a lizard you manage rather than handle.

What health records should I ask for?

A hatch record showing captive breeding rather than import, a PIT tag number, a weight log and a clear fecal.
