Naked Necks, sometimes called Turkens, come from Transylvania and have a bare neck from a single gene. They are hardy, heat tolerant and good dual-purpose birds, and easier to pluck than most.

The tradeoffs, honestly
Bare necks can sunburn and need shelter in cold weather. Their look is not for everyone.
Common questions
Are Naked Necks part turkey?
No. They are chickens with a bare neck from a single gene.
What health checks should chicks or pullets have?
Ask whether chicks were vaccinated for Marek's disease at hatch and whether the flock is NPIP-certified, which covers pullorum-typhoid and usually avian influenza. Look for clear eyes, clean vents and quiet breathing, and quarantine new birds for 30 days.
Are Naked Necks good in hot climates?
Yes. Fewer feathers help them handle heat.
