The tradeoffs, honestly

Zebu handle heat well but need a dry, draft-free shelter in cold winters. They live 20 years or more and are herd animals, so plan for at least two and a long commitment.

Common questions

How is a Miniature Zebu measured?

Height is taken at the withers just behind the hump. Registries such as the International Miniature Zebu Association require 42 inches or less at three years. Ask for adult heights of both parents.

What health tests should Miniature Zebu have?

Ask for a negative BVD-PI ear-notch test on every animal, a Johne's herd status, and a recent trich test on any breeding bull. Breeding stock crossing state lines also needs a health certificate and official ID.

Can I keep just one?

It is not recommended. Zebu are herd animals and a single animal is stressed and harder to handle. Two or three, or a zebu with a goat or donkey companion, works better.
