Mini Satins are a smaller version of the Satin, with the same glassy, transparent hair shaft that gives the coat a bright sheen. Recognized by ARBA in 2005, they are calm, compact pets and a popular youth show breed.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
Satin fur shows dirt and stains, so they need clean housing. They are less common than Mini Rex or Holland Lops.
Common questions
What makes satin fur shine?
The hair shaft is transparent and thin-walled, so it reflects light. It is a recessive gene.
What health checks should a Mini Satin have?
Check teeth and feet. Ask about RHDV2 vaccination and any E. cuniculi history in the herd.
Are Mini Satins good for kids?
Yes. They are calm, sturdy and easy to handle, which makes them a good 4-H rabbit.
