The Mexican milk snake is a smaller milk snake from northeastern Mexico and South Texas, with red bands edged in black and pale rings. Its compact size makes it an easy fit for a modest enclosure and a newer keeper.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
Small hatchlings can be fussy about their first meals and are quick to escape. It must be housed alone.
Common questions
How big an enclosure does it need?
An adult does well in about a 3×1.5 ft enclosure with a locked lid, hides on both ends and a warm side.
Can it live with another snake?
No. Milk snakes eat other snakes, so house and feed each one alone.
What health records should I ask for?
Ask for a clear fecal and a negative crypto PCR, and a feeding log showing several meals on frozen-thawed pinkies or mice. A hatch record with the parents and clutch date confirms captive breeding.
