Merauke
Blue-tongue Skink · 0 live listings
Merauke blue-tongue skinks come from southern New Guinea and are among the longest blue-tongues, with a slender build and a pale, faded pattern. Many in the trade are still imported, so captive-bred animals are worth seeking out.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
Meraukes are big and need room, humidity and UVB. Imports may carry parasites and be defensive until they settle.
Common questions
How big do Meraukes get?
They are long, slender blue-tongues, often among the longest types. Plan for at least a 4×2×2 ft enclosure, and more room is better.
Captive-bred or imported?
Indonesian types are often imported and wild-caught. Captive-bred and parasite-screened matters: ask for a hatch record, a clear fecal and ideally an adenovirus test.
Do they need more humidity than Australian types?
Yes, generally. New Guinea types come from humid habitats, and dry setups can cause shedding problems.
What health tests should a Merauke blue-tongue skink have?
Ask for Fecal exam clear, Adenovirus PCR negative, Exotics vet exam on file, Genetics report for het claims, Hatch or birth record on file and Photo ID on file.
