LaPerm
Cat · Rex · 0 live listings
A curly-coated breed from a spontaneous mutation on an Oregon farm in 1982. LaPerms are affectionate, gentle and curious, as happy on a lap as at play, and their loose, springy curls shed only lightly.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
Coats change a lot as kittens grow, and some go through bald phases. The breed is uncommon, so waits can be long.
Common questions
Is a LaPerm hypoallergenic?
No. It sheds lightly, which some allergic people tolerate better, but it produces the same allergen as any cat. Meet the breed first.
What health checks should the parents have?
The breed is generally healthy. Ask for a full vet exam of the kitten and heart screening on the parents if offered. Few inherited problems are known.
Why is my LaPerm kitten bald?
Many LaPerm kittens go through a bald or thin phase before the curly coat grows in. The adult coat is usually settled by one to two years.
