Lagotto Romagnolo
Dog · Sporting · 0 live listings
An Italian water retriever turned truffle hunter, the Lagotto uses its nose to find truffles underground and still loves to dig. Affectionate, alert and easy to train, it has a dense curly coat that sheds little but mats without regular care.

The tradeoffs, honestly
Lagotti dig with determination and need daily exercise and scent games. The curly coat mats and cords if neglected and needs regular clipping.
Common questions
Is a Lagotto Romagnolo a good first dog?
Often, yes. Lagotti are affectionate, trainable and a manageable size. Give them daily exercise and a job for the nose, and plan for grooming.
What health problems do Lagotti have, and what should be tested?
Hip and elbow dysplasia, juvenile epilepsy and a lysosomal storage disease are the main concerns. Ask for OFA hips and elbows, a recent eye exam and DNA results for benign familial juvenile epilepsy and lysosomal storage disease on both parents.
Are Lagotti hypoallergenic?
They shed little, which some allergy sufferers tolerate better, but no dog is allergen-free. Spend time with the breed before committing.
