The tradeoffs, honestly

Korats dislike loud, chaotic homes and can be possessive of their people. The breed carries two inherited, fatal storage diseases that DNA tests can rule out.

Common questions

What health tests should the parents have?

Ask for DNA results for GM1 and GM2 gangliosidosis on both parents. Both are fatal in affected kittens, and carrier-to-carrier matings should never happen.

Is a Korat good with other pets?

Often, but they like to be in charge. Korats tend to do best with calm pets and can be jealous of attention given to others.

When do Korats get their adult color?

Eye color changes from amber to green over the first two to four years. The silver tipping on the coat also deepens as the cat matures.
