The desert kingsnake comes from the arid Southwest and northern Mexico and is black or dark brown with yellow speckling and pale crossbands. It is a sturdy, adaptable kingsnake with a strong feeding response.

Common questions
How does it differ from a speckled kingsnake?
They are close relatives. Desert kings usually keep dark blotches on the back separated by speckled pale bands, while speckled kings are spotted fairly evenly. Care is the same.
Can it live with another snake?
No. Kingsnakes eat other snakes, including their own kind, so house every kingsnake on its own and feed it alone.
What should I ask for before buying?
Ask for a clear fecal and a negative crypto PCR, and a dated feeding log showing several meals on frozen-thawed mice. A hatch record with the parents and clutch date shows the snake is captive-bred.
