Khao Manee
Cat · Shorthair · 0 live listings
An ancient all-white breed from Thailand, often with odd or blue eyes, prized there for centuries as a lucky cat. Khao Manees are active, social and talkative, and their coloring brings a real risk of deafness.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
White cats with blue or odd eyes can be deaf in one or both ears. The breed is rare outside Thailand, so choice is limited and waits are long.
Common questions
Are Khao Manees deaf?
Some are. Deafness is linked to the white coat and blue eyes. Ask whether the kitten has had a BAER hearing test. Deaf cats live well indoors with some adjustments.
What health checks should the parents have?
Hearing tests on the parents and kitten, a full vet exam, and heart screening if the breeder offers it. The breed has few other known inherited problems.
Is the Khao Manee widely recognized?
TICA and some other registries recognize it; CFA does not. That matters mainly for showing and breeding.
