Yes, for most families. Keeshonden are friendly, trainable and adaptable. Plan for heavy shedding and company most of the day.
What health problems do Keeshonden have, and what should be tested?
Primary hyperparathyroidism, hip dysplasia, luxating kneecaps, epilepsy and hypothyroidism occur. Ask for OFA hips, a patella check, a recent eye exam and a PHPT DNA result on both parents.
Should a Keeshond be shaved in summer?
No. The double coat insulates against heat and cold. Brush out the undercoat and keep the dog cool with shade and air conditioning.
