At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
Holsteiners are large, powerful jumpers with matching care and training needs. Joint soundness checks are essential for a sport horse.
Common questions
What genetic tests should a Holsteiner have?
Ask for a WFFS carrier result, especially for breeding. A pre-purchase exam with radiographs of hocks, stifles and feet checks for OCD and arthritis.
Is a Holsteiner good for dressage?
Some are, but the breed is selected mainly for jumping. For dressage, look at the horse’s own movement and training, not just the breed.
What does the brand mean?
Registered Holsteiners carry a studbook brand and a microchip. Match both to the papers to confirm identity.
Ask the seller for these. Documents on Everybarn are on file for your own checks; we don't check them with the issuer.
