Cinnamon hedgehogs have light brown banded quills, a pink or brown nose and usually dark or ruby eyes. The color does not change care, so an owner is taking on a nocturnal, solitary animal that needs warmth and a wheel.

Why does temperature matter?
Below about 72°F a hedgehog can attempt hibernation, which is dangerous in captivity. Use a thermostat-controlled heat source and check the temperature daily.
What health checks should I ask for?
Ask whether wobbly hedgehog syndrome, a progressive and fatal nerve disease, has appeared in the parents' lines, and for a litter record naming both parents. A vet exam and a check for mites are worth asking for as well.
Are hedgehogs legal where I live?
Not everywhere. California, Hawaii, Georgia, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia prohibit or tightly restrict them, New York City bans them, and Florida requires a permit to sell. Rules vary, so confirm state and city law first.
