Greyhounds chase anything that runs and can reach a road before you call them. Their thin skin tears easily, they feel the cold, and many cannot live with cats or small pets.

Is a Greyhound a good first dog?
Often, yes. Greyhounds are quiet, clean and gentle, and many adults settle well into apartments. They need a leash or secure fence whenever they are outside.
What health problems do Greyhounds have, and what should be tested?
Bone cancer, dental disease and corns on the pads are common, and sighthounds handle some anesthetics differently, so find a vet who knows the breed. From a breeder, ask for a cardiac exam and thyroid panel on both parents; for an ex-racer, ask about tick-borne disease tests.
Can a Greyhound live with a cat?
Some can. Many ex-racing Greyhounds are tested for cat tolerance before placement. Ask about the dog's history and introduce carefully with a muzzle at first.
