Ghost
African Fat-tailed Gecko · 0 live listings
Ghost is a recessive African fat-tailed gecko morph with a faded, softened look, as if the colors have been washed with gray or pastel tones. A visual ghost needs two copies, and hets carry one hidden copy that cannot be seen.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
Ghosts can look like faded normals or whiteouts in poor photos, so records matter. Het claims take generations to prove.
Common questions
How is ghost inherited?
It is recessive. Two hets produce about one visual ghost in four on average, and a visual to a het produces about half visuals.
Ghost or whiteout?
Both look faded, but whiteout shows with one copy and ghost needs two. Parent records are the best way to tell which gene is present.
What health test should I ask for?
Ask whether the colony has had a crypto test and a clear fecal. Crypto causes wasting in geckos and has no reliable cure. Look for a thick tail and clean shed.
What health tests should a Ghost african fat-tailed gecko have?
Ask for Fecal exam clear, Cryptosporidium PCR negative, Exotics vet exam on file, Genetics report for het claims, Hatch or birth record on file and Photo ID on file.
