Fuzzy mice carry a recessive gene that gives a short, sparse, soft coat, often with curly whiskers, and the coat can thin further as they age. With less fur for protection they need a warm, draft-free room and soft bedding.

Do fuzzy mice need extra warmth?
Yes. Keep the room warm and draft-free, give plenty of nesting material and soft paper bedding, and check the skin for scratches or dryness.
What health checks should I ask about?
Mice live only about two years, so ask for a birth date and a litter record. Ask about tumours and respiratory trouble in the line, check for clear eyes, a clean coat and no scratching, and ask for vet-confirmed sex: most pet mice are sexed wrongly at least once.
Should I get does or bucks?
Does usually live happily in groups of two or more. Bucks tend to fight once mature, so most live alone, and their urine smells much stronger. For a first cage, a trio of does raised together is the easiest start.
