Flame crested geckos carry a cream or light dorsal pattern against a darker base, with little pattern on the sides. It is one of the most common looks in the hobby and a good way to start with an easy, long-lived display gecko.

Flame is line-bred, so offspring vary and the label does not predict babies. Expect a jumpy juvenile that needs gentle, short handling sessions.

Where does flame end and harlequin begin?
A flame keeps its cream pattern mostly on the back and head. Once cream runs down the sides and legs, most breeders call it a harlequin.
Does flame breed true?
Not as a single gene. It is polygenic, so flame to flame raises the odds of flames but a clutch will still vary.
What health checks matter?
A hatch date and weight log, a filled-out tail base and straight hips. Ask if the tail is original, because a crested cannot regrow it, and whether the gecko has had a fecal or crypto test.
