Chocolate

Chocolate ferrets have milk-chocolate brown guard hairs over a white to gold undercoat, a lighter mask and often a pink or brown nose. The color is a matter of looks, and an owner should plan for standard ferret care.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
Ferrets are a long, active commitment with a musky smell, a need to chew, and real vet costs later in life. Color changes none of it.
Common questions
Is chocolate a rare color?
It is common enough. Shades vary from line to line and shift with seasonal coat changes.
What health papers should I ask for?
Ask for canine distemper and rabies vaccination records, a vet exam, and whether the ferret is spayed or neutered. Ask about the parents too: adrenal disease and insulinoma are common in middle-aged ferrets, so plan for vet care later in life.
Are ferrets legal where I live?
Not everywhere. California and Hawaii prohibit pet ferrets, Rhode Island requires a permit, and New York City bans them inside the five boroughs. Rules vary and change, so confirm your state and city law before you buy.
