Satin
Mouse · 0 live listings
Satin mice carry a recessive gene that gives the coat a high, glossy sheen from thinner, clearer hair shafts. It is a coat type only, so a satin mouse needs exactly the same housing, diet and company as any fancy mouse.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
The satin coat can look thinner or greasy in some mice, especially as they age. Short lifespan and the buck smell are the same as any mouse.
Common questions
Does a satin coat need special care?
No. Satin is a texture only. Keep bedding clean and dust-free and the coat will shine on its own.
What health checks should I ask about?
Mice live only about two years, so ask for a birth date and a litter record. Ask about tumours and respiratory trouble in the line, check for clear eyes, a clean coat and no scratching, and ask for vet-confirmed sex: most pet mice are sexed wrongly at least once.
Should I get does or bucks?
Does usually live happily in groups of two or more. Bucks tend to fight once mature, so most live alone, and their urine smells much stronger. For a first cage, a trio of does raised together is the easiest start.
