The English show mouse is a larger fancy mouse bred to a show standard, with a long body, big ears and bold eyes. It is often calmer than pet-store mice, but it needs the same care, and its short life is the same as any mouse.

Is an English show mouse calmer?
Often, because show lines are handled a lot and selected for steady temperaments. Ask how the line behaves and how the babies were handled.
What health checks should I ask about?
Mice live only about two years, so ask for a birth date and a litter record. Ask about tumours and respiratory trouble in the line, check for clear eyes, a clean coat and no scratching, and ask for vet-confirmed sex: most pet mice are sexed wrongly at least once.
Should I get does or bucks?
Does usually live happily in groups of two or more. Bucks tend to fight once mature, so most live alone, and their urine smells much stronger. For a first cage, a trio of does raised together is the easiest start.
